Around 4:00 A.M. yesterday morning, a man in Houston was driving with his wife and four-month-old child when he spotted a car that looked like it had been abandoned in a ditch.  (--His name wasn't released.)

--The man decided he was going to take advantage of the opportunity and STEAL whatever he could out of the car.  You know, like most of us would do when we're driving with our families at four in the morning.

--The man popped the trunk because he figured he could steal the stereo speakers.  But when he opened the trunk . . . there was a DEAD BODY in there.

--The man decided to stop trying to strip the car and called 911.  He's not a suspect in the killing and the police did NOT arrest him, even though he admitted he planned to steal from the car.

--The cops identified the dead man as 28-year-old Donald Lapointe of Houston, and say he died from a gunshot wound to the chest.  They don't have any suspects yet.
