Like a lot of libraries, the Porter County Public Library in Valparaiso, Indiana collects thousands of used books that people donate, for resale.
--The librarians were going through the donations recently . . . and they found a GUN inside one of the books. (--They don't say exactly when the librarian found it.)
--It was hidden in a secret, hollowed-out compartment inside a copy of "Outerbridge Reach" . . . a novel from 1998 by an author named Robert Stone. (--It's about an around-the-world yacht race, if you care.)
--The gun was a single-shot antique pistol with a wood-and-gold handle. It would probably end up bringing the library more money than the book sale . . . since it's worth about $175.
--Police were able to determine that it wasn't stolen, but since donations are anonymous, they don't have much hope of finding out who donated it.
