A behavioral neuro-psychiatrist from University College London just released a major paper on why humans cry.  We dug through and pulled out five interesting facts . . .

 

 

#1.)  If you're sitting next to a friend during a movie and they start crying, that makes you more likely to cry.

 

 

#2.)  The other thing that makes you cry during a movie is the music.  You're more likely to cry from that than the plot.

 

 

#3.)  People say MUSIC is the thing that's most likely to make them cry, not just during movies, but in general.  Books are second, and poetry is third.

 

 

#4.)  85% of women and 73% of men say they feel better after they cry.

 

 

#5.)  Humans are the only species that cry from emotions, not just pain.  And it's because our brains are the furthest evolved, and capable of that level of compassion.
