Here's one that goes straight onto the "no good deed goes unpunished" list.
--A few weeks back, a woman named Maria Sanchez was at an animal shelter in San Bernardino, California, and saw something that broke her heart. 36-year-old Dave Thomas was there, crying, next to a dog locked in a cage.
--It turns out Dave had just been arrested for failure to appear in court for two traffic tickets, and the city had taken away his two-year-old pit bull Buzz. Dave is unemployed and broke, and couldn't afford the $400 to get Buzz out.
--And based on the shelter's policy, Buzz was set to be PUT TO SLEEP a few days later. So Maria took a photo, put it on Facebook . . . and collected more than $2,000 to free Buzz and reunite him with Dave! Amazing, right?
--NOPE. Buzz was freed on Wednesday morning, and on Wednesday afternoon, Dave started calling TV stations to complain that Maria hadn't given him the rest of the $1,600 she raised.
--She said she'd use it to help him pay off his bills, tickets, or rent, but didn't want to give him the money because she wanted to make sure the people who donated it knew it was going to a good cause. Dave refused, and said he just wants the cash.
--Maria also suggested that Dave has had trouble with drugs . . . we can't confirm or deny that. Maria says her life and her children's lives were devastated by drug use, and she doesn't want to help feed an addiction.
--So now she's giving the people who donated the option to get their money back or donate it to an animal shelter. As for Dave, she says, quote, "My hands are being washed of him. I'm really disappointed, actually."
