With summer fast approaching, the BISD Food and Nutrition Service is kicking off Seamless Summer Option, a continuation of the National School Lunch Program that maintains the same meal service used during the regular school year.
The program is open to the public and will provide meals to children 18 and younger at no cost. Adults may purchase a meal at the established rate of $3.25 for lunch and $2 for breakfast.
The program beings Monday and will run through Aug. 16, providing a wholesome breakfast served from 7:30-8:30 a.m. Lunch will shortly follow from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
The Brownsville Independent School District encouraged members of the public to attend and enjoy nutritious meals throughout the week. Meals are not limited to BISD students; anyone younger than 18 is welcome to receive the free meals.
Designated dining areas will be conveniently located throughout the district. A promotional banner will be displayed outside designated sites. Also, the Food and Nutrition Service will have a dedicated operator to answer any questions regarding the program. The number is (956) 547-5086.
The Seamless Summer Option combines features of the National School Lunch Program, School Breakfast Program, and Summer Food Service Program. This option reduces paperwork and administrative burden, making it easier for schools to feed children throughout the traditional summer vacation periods, BISD said in a news release.
